#SaferFuture Appeal

“Our main concern is the invisibility abuse suffered by children and young people in Brazil. Action for Brazil’s Children Trust has worked to protect and empower at risk children and young people in Brazil for 16 years.  So when the ball leaves town, we will continue our work.”

Tiffany Garside, CEO, ABC Trust.

In Brazil, a child or teenager is murdered every hour. This equates to around 750 during the month of the World Cup. Additionally, Brazil is home to the largest crack market in the world, and is home to 16 out of the world's 50 most violent cities (six of which will host World Cup games.)

As the leading charity in the UK dedicated to helping at risk children and young people across Brazil, we have launched a Safer Future appeal to protect and empower children across the country and maximise on the attention surrounding Brazil as a result of the 2014 World Cup.

When 736 World Cup players return home, 24,000 children and teenagers will still be living on the streets in Brazil.

Our vision is of a Brazil in which every child has the right to, and the reality of, a safe childhood, a good education and opportunities to reach his or her potential. While the eyes of the world are on Brazil, we want to shine a spotlight on how football, art and culture can be used positively to transform the lives of Brazil’s invisible children. These programmes provide a safe place for children away from gangs and drug traffickers – a place where they can put aside rivalries and learn that they are worth something.
